About UWI-ROYTEC

Profile

UWI-ROYTEC is a wholly owned subsidiary of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. UWI-ROYTEC was launched in 1987 by RBTT Bank and in 2006 RBTT-RBC transferred the management and academic operations to UWI St. Augustine. UWI continues to support the philosophy of ROYTEC which focuses on the seamless transition of young adults from secondary school to tertiary education, the development of teachers to support national objectives of creating a knowledge intensive economy, and corporate training interventions.

Our programmes portfolio includes business management, teacher education, information technology, real estate management and entrepreneurship. We are a leader in the development of indigenous and industry relevant programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Furthermore, we are supported through academic exchange by our overseas partners, the University of New Brunswick and Franklin University.

Our academic standards and operating policies are quality assured through our internal academic boards and committees, the engagement of qualified and dedicated faculty and the integration of best practices through UWI and our overseas partners. Moreover, our transnational programmes and institutional processes are quality assured by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT).

Our investment in enabling technology facilitates access to teaching materials and student support through platforms such as our Student Resource Centre (SRC), Banner Student Administration System, Desire2Learn technology and BlueQuill Learning Management Systems. We have strengthened our resources for student welfare and development to provide the most supportive social, academic and physical environment for our diverse student population. Our dedicated resources for academic advisement and student counselling are sufficient to address our students' needs.

UWI-ROYTEC is registered under the Companies Act of 1995, Trinidad and Tobago and operates from two campus locations, namely 136-138, Henry Street, Port of Spain, and Naparima College, San Fernando.

UWI-ROYTEC was awarded Institutional Accreditation by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad & Tobago (ACTT) for the maximum period of seven (7) years from 2017 – 2024.

History

When ROYTEC was founded in 1987 by RBTT Bank Limited, the institution's primary purpose was the preparation of graduates to meet the human resource requirements of the banking and financial services sectors. By the mid 90’s, additional programmes were launched at the undergraduate level, and ROYTEC evolved into an educationally diverse institution offering the Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Education (Primary School) from the University of New Brunswick; the Certified Financial Planner Education Programme in collaboration with the Financial Advisors Association of Canada; and its own Associate degree programmes in management and information technology and corporate training programmes.

In 2006, as part of the reorganization of the internal structure of RBTT Bank Limited, the external operations of ROYTEC was transferred to UWI, St. Augustine and the institution’s name was changed to the UWI School of Business and Applied Studies Limited (trading as ROYTEC). This relationship between the University of the West Indies (UWI) and ROYTEC is a synergistic one in which the strengths of UWI serve to benefit the academic operations of ROYTEC and strengthen its leadership position in key fields where UWI has distinctive competencies. Over the past two (2) years, this name change has also reflected the changing nature of ROYTEC, as evidenced by increased enrollment, admissions, quality standards, and graduation rates.

UWI-ROYTEC is committed to excellence in teaching and learning and provides an interactive and collaborative academic atmosphere for students.
